[zait wa: zaʕtar], the most every-day food so distinctly Palestinian, with all of its aromas and associations – a metaphor of Palestine and its lands, and something to be widely shared with many.
Starting November 2020, every year the [zait wa: zaʕtar] Festival will be celebrating Palestinian arts and culture by holding a series of events showcasing cultural representations of Palestinian identity. Ranging from photography, film and literature over culinary arts and fashion to music and performance, all events are designed to attract and appeal to a diverse crowd. Through the various components of the festival, a live Berlin audience, and, as much as possible, digital audiences elsewhere, will get the chance to ‘feel’ Palestine in its beauty, singularity and complexity; in much more nuanced ways than through the images created and propagated by most Western TV news and other media.
